Types of Content Management System (CMS)


Below are various types of CMS systems depicted in the diagram along with their brief description:





Web Content Management:
Manages content to deliver on web sites. This CMS is used to create, update, delete, manage and publishing of content used over web pages of a website. 
Example: SDL Tridion, MS-Sharepoint, SiteCore etc.

Enterprise Content Management:
Manage enterprise content viz. - e-mail, business documents etc. and is scalable to use across the whole organization. 

Example: Filenet (IBM), Oracle Content Management, Interwoven Teamsite etc.

Component Content Management:
Manages content at component level for maximum re-use and use across multiple media channels 

Example:  EMC docato, Trisoft CMS, SDL Contenta etc.
Document Management:
Manage content in the form of complete documents like word, excel, pdf etc. 

Example: Stellent, SugarSync, DropBox etc.

Digital Asset Management:
Manage content in the form of digital media like images, video etc. 

Example: Oyaala, Apple iTunes
